the Biól. Margara makes a stay in France

Biologist Lucía Margara was awarded a Saint Exupéry fellowship in the framework of a bilateral cooperation program between the Ministry of Education and Sports of Argentina and the French Embassy, for a 4-month stay in the laboratory of Dr. Vincent Pagès, at the Center de Recherche en Cancérologie de Marseille , France.
Lucia is doing her PhD thesis under the supervisionof Dr. Mariela Monti. She seeks to decipher the molecular mechanism by which the MutS protein of the “Incorrectly Matched Base Repair System” (MMR) regulates access to the replication sites of the low-fidelity DNA polymerase (Pol) IV in the opportunistic pathogenic bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa. During her stay at the Dr. Pagès Laboratory, Lucía will determine if this mechanism works in another bacterium, Escherichia coli, using a system capable of introducing a single damaged nucleotide (lesion) in the chromosome and monitoring its replication by the different mutagenic Pols.
