A mystery unveiled after 40 years

Originated at CIQUIBIC, the Tubulin Carboxy-Peptidase is finally identified

Forty years ago, a research team led by Dr. Héctor S. Barra from our Center, described for the first time the action of an enzyme called Tubulin Carboxy-Peptidase (TCP), which is responsible for the dethyrosination of α-tubulin, a component of cytoskeletal microtubules that mediate many cellular processes. After decades of intense research, scientists from CEA, CNRS, INSERM from the University of Grenoble-Alpes, the University of Montpellier and Stanford University, revealed the identity of this enzyme. The results were recently published in the prestigious journal Science and the article was dedicated to Dr. Barra for his seminal contribution to this discovery. In the following link you can find an excellent review about these findings (Spanish only).
